Background
 

Ludhiana is commonly known as the Manchester of India. Originally this town was founded by Lodhi Dynasty at the site of Village Mir Hotal in 1481 A.D, & was known as Lohdi Khana but later the name spelled as Ludhiana. There was hardly any Industry before partition. After partition the refugees who migrated from Pakistan & other states settled in the district, in a big way and they immediately took up the small industrial ventures for their livelihood and this was the start of Industrial Development of the city.

 

A variety of items such as Cycle & Cycle parts, Sewing machine parts, Auto parts General Forging, Machine tools, Hosiery , Knitwear and Woolens garments, Electronics goods, Plastic & Rubber goods are being produced in the city in big way. Large/Medium sector is also producing items such as Bicycles, Auto parts, Tire & Tubes, Alloy Steel, Forging Hosiery and Readymade garment, beer, Sugar, Milk & Milk products etc.
